Why Abuse Occurs: Overcoming the Victim Mentality

The ego does everything it can to slow down your integration and ascension process. Having a victim mindset and judgmental attitudes are two of the biggest hindrances to spiritual growth. Therefore, one huge step in clearing your energy field and beginning to create purer frequencies is to stop seeing yourself as a victim-of anything!

We create our own circumstances through choices we have made either on purpose, at a soul level (which may seem involuntary on the surface), or by default (doing nothing to actively pursue a better outcome).

Abuse is not something any of us consciously want to manifest, but you are only a victim if you choose to see yourself that way. What’s in the past is in the past. You can change your perception about an abusive experience and thereby change your future, healing your emotions in the process.

Harboring resentment, attempting to retaliate, seeing yourself as a victim, and blaming others are signs of a cluttered energy field. And, these things provide a nice incubator for detrimental energy. Remember, energy attracts more energy like itself. Empaths can’t keep from sensing energy – it’s part of our reason for being in body-but we can keep from absorbing it and allowing it to drag us down or make us sick. That’s why it is necessary forgive.

Let’s talk about three reasons from an empowered soul perspective as to why abuse occurs.

Soul Development

One way to overcome abuse is to accept it as part of your soul’s development plan. The act of abuse could have been arranged by your soul in partnership with another soul to help you each discover a particular strength or virtue, or to allow you to become a mentor to new souls who are suffering abuse now. One who has overcome the hardship of abuse and is now living a victorious life is a good example to those who need to see their own potential.

Karma and Repaying Debts

I’ve heard people say that abuse occurs as a result of karmic debts being repaid. Personally, I don’t believe in karma-it’s a retribution mindset (law of sin and death) and is not part of pure consciousness (the laws of grace). We have free will and create our life experiences by what we hold as beliefs-either consciously or unconsciously. Therefore, two souls in an abusive relationship may connect in the afterlife and continue their ego battle while stuck in the Earth plane. Then these earthbound souls reincarnate into close proximity to one another where they may continue this abusive behavior while in physical body.

This is a cycle that some souls perpetuate, but according to The Spirit’s Book, a channeled work by Allan Kardec, this behavior will eventually cease as these souls decide they’ve had enough drama and suffering, and finally cross over into the light, develop their souls, and begin to vibrate at a purer frequency.

We do take our positive lessons with us when we cross into the light, but nothing negative that happens on this Earth plane needs to go with us into the afterlife. Souls who do not cross over (earthbound souls) may continue to experience the mental and emotional suffering they endured while in body. You can stop this cycle now by refusing to see yourself as a victim and no longer engaging in retaliating behavior.

Shirking Responsibility

An act of violence could happen because some soul who agreed to protect you did not step in. That soul may have gotten trapped in a codependent relationship that didn’t allow them to learn the lesson they were supposed to in order to shield you. In this case, you could blame the other soul for allowing the abuse to happen, but doing so will only permit you to continue to see yourself as a victim; and it will delay your healing and keep you from taking the next step toward empowerment.

Our egos will find any excuse to avoid taking responsibility for where we are now and what we have created with our negative thoughts. Regardless of what has happened in your past you are the only one who can make the decision to let go of offenses and get on with your life’s purpose. The longer you hang on to the victim mentality, the more you will continue to attract abuse and detrimental energy into your life experience.

You will never be able to fulfill your divine mission for being here if you stay stuck licking your wounds. Do whatever you need to do to heal, forgive, and move forward. Remember that whatever you focus on or think about comes about. Focusing on past abuse is the same as currently abusing yourself! You may not have physical scars, but in essence you are picking the crust off of emotional wounds that are trying to heal. Focus on the light and love within you. Be good to yourself. Forgive everything that has happened to you in the past and allow your higher guidance to assist you in realizing that you are an empowered being now.
